Sirjan Rug – 246 x 179

Sirjans are handcrafted tribal rugs from Persia that are produced in the southern Iranian province of Fars, in the Sirjan district. Many people who are not a big fan of the more intricate and busy patterned rugs prefer the extremely simple designs. The rugs’ motif appears to be more complex than basic.

Tribal elements from Turkestan are incorporated into geometrical patterns. The carpets feature a medallion or all-over design that is framed by straightforward theme pieces. On an open field, some designs have one, two, or three pendant-shaped medallions.
